Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will resume camping in Abuja on Sunday, September 7, as preparations officially begin for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup scheduled to hold in Morocco.

Head Coach Bankole Olowookere has called up a squad of 30 players, comprising four goalkeepers, nine defenders, nine midfielders, and eight forwards, as the young stars take their first steps towards another historic outing on the global stage.

Road to Morocco

The Flamingos secured their ticket to the World Cup after an impressive qualification campaign, where they overcame South Africa and Algeria with dominant performances. Nigeria will now be among the 24 nations competing at the first-ever expanded FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, a milestone for women’s youth football.

The tournament will run from October 17 to November 8, 2025, across four venues in two Moroccan cities:

  • Prince Héritier Moulay El-Hassan Sports Complex
  • Prince Moulay Abdellah Sport Complex
  • Al Barid Stadium
  • Mohamed VI Football Academy

This year’s edition is also historic as it is the first of five consecutive World Cups to be hosted by Morocco, highlighting the North African nation’s commitment to women’s football.

Nigeria’s Ambition

The Flamingos will arrive in Morocco as one of Africa’s strongest contenders. At the last edition in India (2022), Nigeria finished third after defeating Germany on penalties in the bronze medal match, their best-ever performance in the tournament’s history.

Coach Olowookere and his backroom staff are confident that the squad, a mix of homegrown talent from Nigeria’s youth clubs and academies, can build on that success and challenge for the ultimate prize in Morocco.
