Stellenbosch frustrate Zamalek in goalless first-leg battle

Stellenbosch and Zamalek played out a tense 0-0 draw in their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final first leg at DHL Cape Town Stadium. The South African debutants held their own against the Egyptian giants, setting up a decisive second leg in Cairo.

Despite Andre de Jong and Ismaël Touré going close for the hosts, Stellenbosch couldn’t find the breakthrough. Zamalek, five-time CAF Champions League winners, dominated possession but struggled to break down a disciplined Stellenbosch defense. Naser Mansy’s header and a late effort from Mostafa Shalaby were the closest the visitors came.

With the tie finely poised, Zamalek will look to make home advantage count in Cairo, while Stellenbosch will aim for a historic upset.

USM Alger grab late equalizer in all-Algerian showdown

In a fiercely contested CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final, CS Constantine and USM Alger played out a 1-1 draw in their first-leg encounter at Hamlaoui Stadium.

The home side struck first through Mounder Temine in the 29th minute, sending the home crowd into raptures. Constantine looked in control, but their failure to convert further chances proved costly. USM Alger made them pay late on when Kevin Mondeko netted a crucial equalizer in the 73rd minute, dealing a heartbreaking blow to the hosts.

With the return leg set for the 5 July Stadium in Algiers, USM Alger now hold the advantage, while Constantine must find a way to respond in enemy territory.

Berkane snatch late win against ASEC Mimosas

RS Berkane took a massive step towards the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals with a 1-0 away victory over ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan.

The Ivorian giants started aggressively, creating multiple opportunities but failing to capitalize due to poor finishing. Berkane absorbed the pressure and struck late through Imad Riahi in the 75th minute, sealing a vital away win.

The Moroccan side will take their slender lead into the return leg, where they’ll look to finish the job in front of their home crowd and continue their quest for another continental title.

Al Masry edge Simba with last-minute strike

Al Masry secured a crucial 2-0 first-leg victory over Simba SC in a high-octane CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final clash in Suez.

The hosts took an early lead in the 16th minute through Abderrahim Deghmoum, settling into control as Simba pushed forward in search of an equalizer. The Tanzanian giants enjoyed spells of possession but couldn’t breach Al Masry’s disciplined defense.

With the game nearing full-time, John Ebuka delivered the knockout blow in the 89th minute, sealing a two-goal cushion for Al Masry ahead of next week’s return leg in Tanzania.

As the second-leg ties approach, the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals remain wide open, promising more drama and high-stakes football.
