Burkina Faso have etched their name in history as the first team to secure a spot in both the CAF U-17 AFCON (2025) quarter-finals and the FIFA U-17 World Cup (2025), following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Egypt on Thursday night.

The West Africans made it two wins from two after their opening 2-1 triumph over Cameroon, ensuring their passage to the next round with a game to spare. Goals from Issouf Dabo and the red-hot Asharaf Tabsoba sealed the deal, while Belal Ateya’s late strike for Egypt proved to be only a consolation.

Burkina Faso’s Firepower Proves Too Much for Egypt

After a cagey start, Dabo broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, giving Burkina Faso a deserved first-half lead. Despite Egypt’s desperate push for an equalizer after the break, Tabsoba struck in the 69th minute, doubling the advantage and further cementing his status as one of the tournament’s standout players.

Egypt refused to go down without a fight, and Ateya pulled one back in the 78th minute, setting up a tense finale. However, Burkina Faso’s backline stood firm, ensuring their progression to the next round with six points from two matches.

With their quarter-final ticket secured, Burkina Faso will now face South Africa in their final group fixture, aiming to maintain their perfect record. Meanwhile, Egypt must now defeat Cameroon—who sit on one point after a draw with South Africa—to keep their hopes of advancing as one of the best third-placed teams alive.
