Sporting Lagos have made a bold statement of intent ahead of the second half of the 2024/25 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, unveiling eight new signings as they mount a serious push for NPFL promotion.
The Lagos-based side has added steel and flair across all departments, with a clear eye on depth and versatility for the business end of the campaign.
At the back, Babatunde Akomolede and Aliu Adedayo arrive to shore up the defence, adding experience and composure to a backline that has already shown promise.
In midfield, there’s a new engine room forming with the arrivals of Gavi Thompson, Akinola Damilola, Joseph Nanjul, and Aondona Adeede — all capable of dictating tempo and providing attacking thrust.
Up front, Saheed Abolade and Aliyu Baba are set to inject pace and precision into Sporting’s attacking arsenal, with Akinola Damilola also offering a dynamic edge higher up the pitch in addition to his midfield versatility.

Speaking on the club’s mid-season recruitment drive, Head of Recruitment Ayobami Animashaun expressed confidence in the quality of the new arrivals:
“We’ve brought in players who understand the task ahead. This is a big second half of the season for us, and these additions give us the balance, depth, and quality we need to compete and finish strong.”
All eight new signings are expected to be available for selection when Sporting Lagos face Rovers FC of Calabar this weekend — a fixture that could set the tone for the club’s second-half surge in the NNL.
With promotion firmly in sight, Sporting Lagos are not just talking the talk — they’re building a squad to walk it.
