World record holder Tobi Amusan is set to launch her 2025 athletics season with a high-profile appearance in the 100m hurdles at the Diamond League opener in Xiamen, China, on 26 April.
The Nigerian sprint hurdles queen headlines a stacked field at Egret Stadium, marking her first Diamond League race of the year and setting the tone for a season that includes the World Championships in Tokyo and the Diamond League Final in Zurich.
Now in its third edition, the Xiamen Diamond League Meeting promises explosive action across nine track and seven field events, with Amusan’s event expected to be among the biggest attractions.
The 2022 world champion and record holder—with a historic time of 12.12 seconds—currently sits 13th in the global rankings but remains one of the most electrifying names in women’s hurdling. This season opener offers Amusan a prime opportunity to reassert her dominance on the global stage.
She will face a field brimming with world-class talent, including:
- Devynne Charlton (Bahamas) – World indoor 60m hurdles record holder, ranked 7th globally
- Danielle Williams (Jamaica) – World champion, PB of 12.32s
- Nia Ali, Grace Stark, and Tonea Marshall (USA) – All in fine early-season form
To claim victory, Amusan will need to be at her best—but she’s already flashed her readiness in her season-opening win at Velocity Fest 16 in Kingston, Jamaica. Running the 100m dash, Amusan clocked 11.28 seconds (-0.5 m/s wind), beating Jamaica’s Serena Cole (11.45) and Anthonique Strachan (11.46) of the Bahamas.
The Kingston win marked Amusan’s first official race since the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and also her debut outing as a member of the famed Racers Track Club, home to sprinting icons and Olympic legends.
As the road to Tokyo and Zurich begins, all eyes now turn to Xiamen, where Tobi Amusan’s pursuit of glory officially kicks off.
