
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Remo Stars Football Club on their historic victory in the 2024–2025 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) season, calling it a landmark achievement that places Ikenne and Ogun State in the national spotlight.
In a statement released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded the players, coaching staff, and management of Remo Stars for their “hard work, discipline, and unyielding spirit.”
Reflecting on the journey to their first-ever NPFL title, Tinubu applauded the team’s character and refusal to give up in the face of adversity.
“Their courage in pursuing success despite three previous near-misses in the race for the league title is admirable,” the President stated.
He expressed hope that Remo Stars’ story would serve as motivation for other Nigerian football clubs, urging them to embrace perseverance and optimism in chasing their goals.
“I hope their example will inspire other Nigerian clubs to pursue their dreams continuously with tenacity and optimism,” Tinubu added.
The President also reserved special commendation for the club’s owner and chairman, Mr. Kunle Soname, highlighting his vision and unwavering dedication to grassroots football development. Tinubu specifically pointed out Soname’s monumental efforts in constructing a state-of-the-art stadium in Ikenne, emphasizing its critical role in the advancement of sports infrastructure in Nigeria.
With their first NPFL title now secured, Remo Stars have earned the honour of representing Nigeria on the continental stage at the CAF Champions League.
President Tinubu urged the Sky Blue Stars to carry their winning mentality into the continental competition, stating that they must retain their “undaunting spirit and focus” as they chase greater success.
Finally, the President called on Nigerian football fans across the nation to rally behind Remo Stars as they embark on their CAF Champions League journey, carrying the hopes of a nation eager for continental glory.
