In a night of unforgettable drama at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, Morocco’s Lionesses of the Atlas roared back from the brink to claim the inaugural Women’s Africa Futsal Cup of Nations title, sealing a breathtaking 3-2 comeback win over Tanzania on Wednesday.
Backed by a passionate home crowd, Morocco overturned a two-goal deficit with sheer grit and class, with Jasmine Demraoui emerging as the hero by netting the last-minute winner that sparked wild celebrations and delivered Morocco’s first-ever continental futsal crown.
Tanzania had silenced the Rabat faithful early on, storming to a 2-0 lead through Anastazia Katunzi and Jamila Rajabu, whose sharp finishing and high-pressing game unsettled the hosts. But just before halftime, Morocco clawed back into the contest when Doha El Madani coolly converted a penalty, swinging momentum their way.
Reinvigorated, the Lionesses came out flying in the second half. Drissia Korrych brought Morocco level in the 34th minute with a smart finish off a well-executed corner, setting the stage for a tense finale.
As the clock ticked down and legs grew heavy, Morocco surged forward with relentless energy, and it was Demraoui—later crowned Best Player of the Tournament—who delivered the decisive blow, firing a low, precise shot past the Tanzanian goalkeeper in the final minute to complete the comeback and secure a place in history.
The victory not only earns Morocco their maiden futsal title but also secures qualification for the first-ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in the Philippines later this year, with runners-up Tanzania also clinching a World Cup berth.
