The Flying Eagles of Nigeria opened their 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (U-20 AFCON) campaign with a strong start, defeating Tunisia 1-0 at the Cairo International Stadium.
The breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Auwal Ibrahim calmly finished off a well-crafted team move, thanks to a precise pass from Odinaka Okoro, who controlled a diagonal cross before setting up the decisive goal.
Tunisia responded with late first-half pressure and a penalty appeal, but VAR waved it away.
In the second half, the game tightened as Tunisia pushed for an equalizer while Nigeria held firm and tried to capitalize on counter-attacks. Despite several promising chances, the Flying Eagles couldn’t extend their lead but showcased strong defensive organization to secure the win.
