The Super Falcons’ starting right back, Michelle Alozie, in speaking about their team’s victory in the quarter-final match against Zambia with journalists Ademola Victor, declared that the Super Falcons’ of Nigeria has a height advantage over most teams in Africa and just had to make it count when it mattered against Zambia.
“We knew that set pieces were going to be an important component as we have a height difference with Zambia and most African teams, so we knew that we had to put those away and we did today.”
The Super Falcons’ of Nigeria outclassed Zambia in their quarter-final match-up with the Copper Queens, putting five past a hapless Zambia that featured the African Best Player of the year, Barbara Banda.
The Super Falcons got the first goal courtesy of a lofted freekick into the box from Esther Okoronkwo that was met by defender Osinachi Ohale, who nodded past the Zambian keeper in the 3rd minute of action.
One quickly became two when Esther Okoronkwo chested down a cross from Rasheedat Ajibade and fired into the bottom corner. Ihezuo, Dimehin and Ijamilusi got in on the act, scoring the 3rd, 4th, and 5th goals respectively to deal last edition’s 3rd place team a devastating blow and send them packing.
Being respectful at the end, Michelle noted that Zambia have an amazing front three and the team had to double down to get the result.
“They have an amazing front three, and so to be able to shut them down took every ounce of energy, I was basically crying at the end of the game, and that’s all due to Zambia, they are a very great side and we were just able to perform today.”
