Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is on the verge of completing a high-profile move to Turkish powerhouse Besiktas, after giving the green light to a transfer from English club Leicester City.
According to Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba, the 28-year-old has agreed to a three-year contract with Besiktas, which includes an option to extend for an additional season. The Turkish club had a €9.5 million offer accepted by Leicester City, paving the way for Ndidi’s exit after seven years in England.
Besiktas are now making final preparations to fly the Nigerian star to Istanbul aboard a private jet for his medicals, expected to take place in the coming days. Once completed, Ndidi will officially become the latest Nigerian player to join the Turkish Super Lig this summer.
He joins a growing list of compatriots making moves to Turkey, including Victor Osimhen, who signed with Galatasaray, Paul Onuachu’s return to Trabzonspor, and Henry Onyekuru’s transfer to Genclerbirligi.
Besiktas are counting on Ndidi’s vast experience and defensive midfield prowess as they rebuild their squad for a renewed title challenge. The club last won the Super Lig in the 2020–21 season and are determined to reclaim domestic dominance.
Ndidi’s potential departure marks the end of a successful chapter at Leicester City. Since arriving in 2017, he made 303 appearances for the Foxes, scored 18 goals, and provided 22 assists. His contributions were instrumental during Leicester’s FA Cup triumph in 2021 and their brief stints in European competitions.
Last season, Ndidi featured in 30 matches, scoring once and providing five assists, helping Leicester gain promotion back to the Premier League after their relegation in 2023.
With all terms now agreed between the clubs and the player, only the medical and final paperwork remain before Ndidi is officially unveiled as a Besiktas player.
