Antoine Semenyo ‘s brace for Bournemouth was not enough to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat for as Federico Chiesa’s and Mohammed Salah late goals sealed all three points for Liverpool.
The fiery encounter saw debutant Hugo Ekitike break the deadlock in the 37th minute after a fortuitous rebound fell kindly for him to slot past a hapless Petrovic in goal for Bournemouth.
Two quickly became two right after the break as Gakpo got in on the act, dribbling past his marker to slot into the bottom corner.
It became the Semenyo show right after, with the Ghanaian finishing off a quick cross into the box to reduce the deficit before running almost the length of the pitch to finish off a perfect counterattack by Bournemouth to restore parity and nearly secure a point for his side.
Late goals from Federico Chiesa and Mohammed Salah ultimately condemned Bournemouth to a 4-2 lose away at Liverpool on openng weekend but Semenyo will hope to continue in this rich vein of form for theest of the season.
