Former Super Eagles defender, Taribo West, has alleged that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) failed to provide support during the burial of legendary goalkeeper Peter Rufai. Taribo’s comments, which sparked reactions among football fans, questioned the Federation’s commitment to honouring past football icons.

NFF’s Response

In response to the allegation, the NFF released a statement via its official Instagram page, clarifying that it not only supported the burial but also stood in solidarity with the families of both Christian Chukwu and Peter Rufai.

The NFF noted that it provided financial assistance to the families of the two late legends. The statement highlighted that during the burial rites of Christian Chukwu, the Federation was represented by Executive Committee Member Chief George Aluo, Barr. Okey Obi, and Mr. Chikelue Iloenyosi.

Similarly, at the funeral mass of Peter Rufai in Lagos, the NFF delegation included Executive Committee Member Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi and Dr. Ademola Olajire, who offered financial support to Rufai’s family on behalf of the Federation.

Honouring the Legends

“The Nigeria Football Federation stood in solidarity with two of our legends as they were laid to rest,” the statement read. “We honour their service, celebrate their legacy, and extend our continued support to their families.”

This official clarification comes amidst public debate and serves as the NFF’s reaffirmation of its commitment to respecting and supporting Nigerian football heroes even after their passing.
