Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has suffered a major transfer setback after his proposed move to Italian giants AC Milan collapsed following medical tests.
The 23-year-old forward, who was recently named in Nigeria’s preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, had traveled to Milan over the weekend with hopes of sealing a big switch to Serie A. Reports confirmed that AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen had reached a verbal agreement for a loan deal worth €5 million with a €24 million buy option.
However, the transfer was abruptly called off after Boniface’s medicals raised concerns, forcing the Rossoneri to pull out of the deal. The striker is now set to return to Germany to continue with Bayer Leverkusen.
With the deal off, Milan must now reconsider their transfer options, while Boniface will return to Bundesliga duties with Bayer Leverkusen unless other negotiations emerge.
Boniface remains part of Nigeria’s plans. With his name already included in the provisional squad list, national team selectors will be closely monitoring his fitness and form as the qualifiers approach.
The setback may raise questions about his immediate readiness, but fans will be hoping he regains full sharpness and continues his strong performances for Leverkusen before joining the Super Eagles camp.
