The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has honored Super Falcons assistant coach Justin Madugu with a three-bedroom bungalow and a cash reward of N50 million for his pivotal role in Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The gesture was announced in a Facebook post by Pius Iliya, one of the governor’s aides, who confirmed that the presentation took place at the Government House in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.
Coach Justin Madugu, an indigene of Adamawa, was praised by Governor Fintiri for his contributions to the Super Falcons’ success in the continental tournament, which was held in Morocco earlier this year.
“Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on behalf of the Government and people of Adamawa State, has gifted Justine Pwanidi Madugu (Coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons) a three-bedroom bungalow and a sum of N50m for leading the team into winning the 2024 Women African Cup of Nation that took place in Morocco this year,” the statement read.
This state-level recognition follows the national celebration held in Abuja on Monday, where President Bola Tinubu hosted the victorious Falcons at the Presidential Villa. Each player was rewarded with $100,000, while members of the coaching staff, including Madugu, received $50,000, national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger, and three-bedroom apartments.
Nigeria claimed their record-extending tenth WAFCON title in dramatic fashion, coming from two goals down to defeat host nation Morocco 3 to 2 in the final. The comeback was sealed with second-half goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini.
The Super Falcons completed the tournament unbeaten, scoring ten goals and conceding only three, further solidifying their legacy as the dominant force in African women’s football.
