Fulham staged an impressive turnaround at Craven Cottage on Saturday, powered by an electric display from Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi. The 29 year old changed the game in a breathtaking spell, scoring and assisting in under two minutes to steer the Cottagers to a 3–1 win over Brentford.

The visitors struck first when Mikkel Damsgaard found the net in the 20th minute, briefly silencing the home crowd. Fulham, however, regained control late in the half thanks to Iwobi’s sharp instincts. After Brentford skipper Nathan Collins failed to clear Saša Lukić’s deflected strike, Iwobi pounced on the loose ball and buried the equaliser in the 38th minute.

Barely 98 seconds later, he was at the heart of the action again. Iwobi slipped a clever pass into the path of Harry Wilson, who drilled a crisp effort into the bottom corner to put Fulham ahead.

While Iwobi stole the headlines in attack, compatriot Calvin Bassey played a crucial role at the back. The centre back completed the full 90 minutes, making five clearances and a key tackle to keep Brentford’s frontline under control. His defensive solidity ensured Fulham held firm after taking the lead, underlining his growing importance in Marco Silva’s setup.

Iwobi’s contribution now stands at three direct goal involvements in five league matches this season, continuing the form that saw him enjoy his most productive campaign last term with nine goals and six assists across 38 outings. Since his move from Everton in 2023, he has steadily become one of Fulham’s most reliable performers.

As the season progresses, the Super Eagles star is expected to remain a focal point of Fulham’s ambitions, whether in pursuit of European qualification or a domestic trophy. Meanwhile, compatriots Frank Onyeka and Samuel Chukwueze were named on the bench for Brentford but did not make an appearance.
