The 9th National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba came to a spectacular close at the Stephen Keshi Stadium on Saturday, with dazzling cultural performances and thrilling displays of athletic talent. In a historic twist, Team Lagos emerged overall champions, dethroning perennial winners Delta State and announcing their arrival as Nigeria’s new powerhouse in youth sports.
Lagos Shines at the National Youth Games 2025
Team Lagos delivered a remarkable performance, finishing first with 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze medals. Delta State, who had dominated previous editions, dropped to second with 37 gold, 38 silver, and 39 bronze medals. Edo State came in third with 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze, followed by Bayelsa in fourth and Kwara rounding out the top five.
