Bayelsa Queens have secured their sixth Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title, triumphing in the 2024/25 season’s Super Six playoffs. The Prosperity Girls delivered a commanding 4-1 victory over Naija Ratels in their final match, ensuring they topped the Super Six standings with 10 points. This win not only dethroned defending champions Edo Queens but also solidified Bayelsa Queens’ position as the third most successful club in NWFL history.

Unbeaten Run and Strategic Victories

Throughout the regular campaign, Bayelsa Queens remained unbeaten but in the Super Six playoffs they lost that streak to Edo Queens, securing three wins and one draw. Their consistent performance was pivotal in clinching the title, especially as other contenders faltered in crucial moments. Notably, Nasarawa Amazons, who needed a win to claim the championship, were held to a goalless draw by Edo Queens, while Remo Stars Ladies suffered a 2-1 defeat to Rivers Angels.

Enhanced Prize Money Reflects Growing Support

The NWFL announced a total prize pool of ₦24.5 million for the 2025 Premiership Super Six, marking a significant increase from previous seasons. The champions, Bayelsa Queens, received ₦10 million, maintaining the standard of the past two editions. The runners-up earned ₦6 million, and the third-placed team received ₦4 million, both representing a ₦1 million increase from last season. Additionally, the bottom three teams each received ₦1.5 million, up from ₦500,000 in the previous edition .

Individual Accolades Highlight Emerging Talents

Teenage sensation Jenat Akekeromowei of Nasarawa Amazons was named the Most Valuable Player of the Super Six, having scored four goals during the playoffs and 13 overall in the season. Her performance underscores the rising talent in Nigerian women’s football. Meanwhile, Bolaji Olamide of Remo Stars Ladies emerged as the league’s top scorer, netting 15 goals in 19 matches, showcasing her consistent prowess in front of goal .

Final Standings of the Super Six Playoffs

  • Bayelsa Queens – 10 points
  • Nasarawa Amazons – 9 points
  • Edo Queens – 8 points
  • Rivers Angels – 7 points
  • Remo Stars Ladies – 7 points
  • Naija Ratels – 0 points

Bayelsa Queens’ triumph not only adds to their illustrious history but also secures their qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League, where they will represent Nigeria on the continental stage. Their success reflects the growing competitiveness and talent in the NWFL, promising an exciting future for women’s football in the country.
