Nigeria Women’s Football League champions Bayelsa Queens will begin their quest for a second appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League when they compete in the WAFU B zonal qualifiers scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast from August 9 to 24, 2025.
The West African Football Union Zone B officially confirmed the dates and venue for the regional qualifiers of the fifth edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, as published by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
In a statement released by the WAFU B Secretariat, the tournament will run from Saturday, August 9 to Sunday, August 24, 2025, with clubs from across the sub-region battling for the lone qualification spot to the continental showpiece.
Bayelsa Queens, fondly nicknamed the Prosperity Girls, will be aiming to become the first Nigerian club to qualify twice via the WAFU B route. They first achieved the feat in 2022, winning the qualifiers and eventually securing a historic third-place finish at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals in Morocco — the best showing by any Nigerian team in the competition to date.
Their ticket to this year’s zonal qualifiers came after a stellar performance in the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership Super Six Playoffs, where they clinched the national title under head coach Whyte Ogbonda.
The qualifiers in Ivory Coast will determine the region’s sole representative at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League finals. Only the tournament winner will advance.
Edo Queens are the defending WAFU B champions, having defeated Benin Republic’s Ainonvi FC 3–0 in the 2024 final also hosted in Ivory Coast, before finishing fourth at the main continental tournament in Morocco.
