The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has confirmed the match venues for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), with Nigeria’s Super Eagles set to play their group-stage matches in Zanzibar. The tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2 to 30, 2025, marking CHAN’s return to East Africa for the first time since the 2016 edition in Rwanda.
Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam will stage the opening match on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Uganda’s Mandela Stadium in Kampala will host the third-place match, while Kenya’s Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi has been selected for the final on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
In a major highlight, Zanzibar has been named among the host venues, with its Amaan Stadium set to welcome Group D fixtures, including matches involving Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, and Congo. Zanzibar’s inclusion comes after the successful hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2024/25 Final in May, showcasing the island’s readiness to stage continental events.
Here is the breakdown of group-stage host cities:
Group A – Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
Group B – Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
Group C – Kampala, Uganda: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, Algeria
Group D – Zanzibar: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
The CAF Appeals Board recently ruled to replace Equatorial Guinea with Congo in Group D, setting the stage for Nigeria to face tough continental opposition in their group matches. This year’s CHAN tournament further underlines CAF’s efforts to expand the reach of African football and promote inclusivity by giving emerging footballing regions like Zanzibar a platform on the continental stage.
