Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has reached a landmark moment in his managerial career, taking charge of his 100th official game for the club on the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The milestone came during Friday’s 1-1 draw against Rivers United at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, where Ogunmodede’s champions began their title defense. The visitors struck first through former Flying Eagles forward Aniekeme Okon, but new Remo Stars signing and Super Eagles striker Victor Mbaoma hit back quickly with a well-taken equalizer.
At 45 years old, Ogunmodede has firmly established himself as one of the most progressive coaches in Nigerian football. His record after 100 games reads: 53 wins, 20 draws, and 27 defeats, a testament to his consistency and tactical acumen.
This milestone comes just a day after Ogunmodede returned from Tanzania, where he served as assistant coach to Eric Chelle with Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Although the team exited at the group stage, they bowed out on a high note with a 2-0 victory over Congo.
Since assuming full charge of Remo Stars in 2022, Ogunmodede has been the architect of a remarkable rise. Last season, he guided the Ikenne-based side to their first-ever NPFL title, ending the South-West’s 25-year wait for a league champion since Julius Berger’s triumph in 2000. That success followed back-to-back runners-up finishes in 2023 and 2024, underlining the club’s steady growth under his leadership.
Ogunmodede’s journey with Remo Stars, however, dates back to 2015 when he joined as assistant manager under Nduka Ugbade. He later oversaw the club’s youth development project, transforming it into the Beyond Limits Football Academy, which has become a talent pipeline for the first team. His first senior managerial spell came in 2020, when he led Remo back to the NPFL before briefly departing for Portugal to work with CD Feirense. He returned stronger and has since cemented his status as the most successful coach in Remo’s history.
Now a centurion in the dugout, Ogunmodede’s immediate challenge is to defend the league title while juggling national team duties with the Super Eagles as Nigeria prepares for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.
For a coach who has combined local development with continental ambition, the 100-match milestone is less a destination than a stepping stone toward even greater achievements in Nigerian football.
