Delta Sports Commission Chairman Onoriode Oborevwori Named Sports Commissioner of the Year at Nigeria-France Sports Awards

Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, has been named Sports Commissioner of the Year at the prestigious Nigeria-France Sports Awards, in recognition of his exceptional leadership and contributions to sports development in Nigeria, Modzero Sports reports.

The award, presented during the third edition of “Celebrating Nigerian Athletes in France” held at the Maison Des Arts on October 20, 2025, highlights Oborevwori’s role in transforming Delta State into a model for grassroots and elite sports excellence.

Under his stewardship, Delta State has solidified its reputation as Nigeria’s leading sporting powerhouse, consistently dominating national championships, nurturing young athletes, and investing heavily in world-class sports facilities.

One of Oborevwori’s notable achievements includes facilitating the provision of new buses to Warri Wolves and Delta Queens, significantly improving logistics and operations for both teams. His commitment to sports development extends beyond medals, focusing on building sustainable structures that empower future generations of athletes.

The Nigeria-France Sports Awards commended Oborevwori for using sports as a tool for development, unity, and international cooperation; values that reflect the enduring partnership between Nigeria and France in promoting athletic growth and cultural exchange.

As Delta State continues its forward march, Oborevwori’s administration is prioritizing youth talent pathways, athlete welfare, and global exposure programs, ensuring that the state’s athletes remain competitive on the international stage.

Other award recipients on the night included Prince Ademola Olawepo Shennowo, who received the Grassroots Sports Development Award; Otemu E. Igho, named Super Falcons Fan of the Year; and Senator Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State, honored with the Award of Excellence for Sports Development.

Additionally, Maria Tavares Malfoy, a licensed FIFA Match Agent, received the Award of Outstanding Contribution to Women’s and Youth Football, while Adeboye Anthony (Zulu Authority) was recognized with the Award of Excellence for Grassroots Sports Development for his enduring impact on community sports.
