Matchday three of the 2025 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six delivered high-stakes action in Ikenne on Tuesday, as Edo Queens claimed their first win, Nasarawa Amazons edged Rivers Angels, and Bayelsa Queens ended Remo Stars Ladies’ perfect run, Modzero Sports reports.

In the day’s opening fixture, defending champions Edo Queens bounced back from a winless start to the Super Six, defeating Naija Ratels 2-0. Star forward Emem Essien was the difference-maker, netting twice in quick succession in the 20th and 22nd minutes, as the Benin Arsenals took control early and never looked back. The result leaves Ratels rooted to the bottom of the table with no points from three games.

In the second match, Nasarawa Amazons continued their unbeaten run with a narrow 2-1 victory over Rivers Angels. Red-hot striker Jenat Akekeromowei added to her growing reputation, scoring in the 24th and 30th minutes to notch her third goal in three matches. Catherine Kenneth gave Rivers Angels hope with a beautifully struck free-kick in the 79th minute, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.

With the win, Nasarawa Amazons move to seven points and maintain their unbeaten status in the playoffs.

The final clash of the day saw Bayelsa Queens deliver a statement performance, handing Remo Stars Ladies their first defeat of the Super Six. The Prosperity Ladies wasted no time asserting dominance, with Chinwe Akabike scoring in the 12th minute and Sefiat Idris doubling the lead shortly after.

Despite their impressive start to the tournament, Remo Stars Ladies were unable to recover from the early goals and struggled to create meaningful chances.

Bayelsa Queens now top the standings on goal difference over Nasarawa Amazons — both sides tied on seven points. Remo Stars drop to third with six points, Edo Queens climb to fourth with four, Rivers Angels stay fifth on one point, while Naija Ratels remain winless at the bottom.

Matchday 4 kicks off Thursday at the Remo Stars Stadium, featuring key fixtures:

  • Edo Queens vs Bayelsa Queens
  • Rivers Angels vs Naija Ratels
  • Remo Stars Ladies vs Nasarawa Amazons — a potential title decider.
