Nigeria’s Falconets, two-time FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup silver medallists, have kicked off intensive training in Ibadan, Oyo State, as they gear up for Saturday’s decisive 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup second-round, second-leg tie against Rwanda’s She-Amavubi.
The team arrived in Ibadan on Monday afternoon, where they were warmly received by the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke. In her address, Adegoke assured the players and officials of the state government’s unwavering support, pledging both encouragement and prayers for success in the high-stakes encounter.
Team captain Joy Igbokwe, speaking on behalf of the squad, expressed gratitude for the reception and support. She reaffirmed the Falconets’ commitment to delivering a strong performance that would make Nigerians proud and secure passage to the next round of the competition.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed match officials for Saturday’s showdown at the Lekán Salami Stadium, Ibadan. Gambian referee Ngum Fatou will take charge of proceedings, assisted by compatriots Jainaba Manneh and Abbie Ceesay, while Isatou Touray will serve as the fourth official. Jodie Marian Reid Seton of Liberia has been named match commissioner, with Hayam Mohammed Baraka of Egypt appointed as referee assessor.
With a place in the next round at stake, the Falconets will be banking on home support to finish the job against Rwanda and continue their journey toward another World Cup appearance.
