
The Super Eagles have made a slight leap in the latest FIFA World Rankings, moving up one place to 43rd globally following their recent performances on the international stage.
The rankings, released by FIFA on Thursday, see Nigeria maintain their position among Africa’s elite, though they still sit sixth on the continent, trailing reigning crowned African champions Côte d’Ivoire (41st).
Global Standings: Argentina Still on Top
At the summit of world football, Argentina remain the undisputed No. 1, courtesy of their dominant displays in international fixtures. They are followed by Spain (2nd) and France (3rd), with England (4th) and Brazil (5th) rounding off the top five.
Elsewhere, the Netherlands have climbed to 6th, overtaking Portugal (7th), while Belgium (8th), Italy (9th), and Germany (10th) complete the top ten.

Africa’s Top Dogs: Morocco Lead the Pack
In the African rankings, Morocco have reclaimed the No.1 spot on the continent after leapfrogging Senegal, moving up two places to 12th in the world. Senegal now sit 19th globally and second in Africa.
Egypt (32nd) and Algeria (36th) occupy third and fourth place in Africa after gaining a spot each, while Côte d’Ivoire’s dramatic AFCON 2024 triumph sees them rise five places to 41st, making them Africa’s fifth-best team.
Nigeria, now at 43rd, remain just behind the Elephants in sixth, while Tunisia (49th) make a three-place jump to seventh in Africa.
The next FIFA rankings update will be released on July 10, where teams will look to improve their standings ahead of crucial international fixtures.
