Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, are heading into the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco with growing confidence after wrapping up their Abuja camp with an unblemished record in tune-up matches.
Since regrouping, the Flamingos have played eight friendlies, winning all while scoring 26 goals and conceding none, a flawless run that has lifted spirits in camp and sharpened their readiness for the global stage.
Last week, the young Nigerians defeated Abuja All-Stars 3-0, with Praise Agba, Olamide Olanrewaju (penalty), and Zainab Raji finding the net. Goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu impressed with key saves to preserve another clean sheet. Earlier, they overcame Josiah Academy 2-0 in a rain-disrupted match, with Chisom Nwachukwu netting twice inside ten minutes before heavy downpour halted play.
Other standout results included a 5-0 rout of Nazareth Angels, where Queen Joseph bagged a brace, supported by Agba, Mariam Yahaya, and Nwachukwu, and a commanding 5-0 victory over Horvel Prime, with Joseph netting a hat-trick in just 35 minutes, alongside goals from captain Shakirat Moshood and Azeezat Oduntan.
The Flamingos dominance across all departments, ruthless finishing in attack and rock-solid defending has made them one of the African teams to watch at the finals.
Nigeria has been drawn into Group D alongside Canada, France, and Samoa. The squad is scheduled to depart Nigeria on 8 October, bringing their perfect preparatory run to Morocco, where the competition runs from 17 October to 8 November 2025.
