Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Chile in an international friendly on Saturday in Rancagua, as both sides gear up for the 24th FIFA U20 World Cup, which kicks off in a week’s time.

The Nigerians took the lead in the 18th minute when Ahmed Akinyele rose highest in the box to head home from a Tahir Maigana corner. The advantage, however, lasted only until the 36th minute, when Felipe Faúndez equalized for Chile with a neat finish.

Early in the second half, goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt produced two outstanding saves in quick succession to keep the contest level.

Coach Ladan Bosso introduced Abduljelil Kamaldeen, Kparobo Arhieri, and Auwal Ibrahim after the break as the Flying Eagles searched for a winner, but the game ended all square.

Nigeria will continue their build-up with another warm-up match against Australia’s U20 side on Tuesday.
