The CAF African Schools Football Championship 2025 is heading to Ghana, as the West African nation has been confirmed as the host for the prestigious Continental Finals, scheduled to take place from April 21 – 26, 2025, at the Legon Sports Stadium, University of Ghana, Accra.

This marks the first time the championship’s grand finale will be staged in West Africa, following successful editions in South Africa (2023) and Tanzania (2024). The tournament is set to showcase the best young footballing talent from across Africa, bringing together the finest school teams that have battled through intense Zonal Qualifiers.

A Tournament Changing Lives Through Football

Since its launch in April 2022 by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the CAF African Schools Football Championship has become a groundbreaking platform for grassroots football, giving young boys and girls across the continent the opportunity to shine.

With over 1.9 million participants from 46 countries, the competition has rapidly grown into Africa’s largest youth football movement, not just discovering future stars but also fostering education, leadership, and community development.

Thanks to a $10 million donation from the Motsepe Foundation, CAF has been able to invest in school infrastructure, libraries, and development projects—ensuring that the impact of the tournament extends far beyond the pitch.

High Stakes, Big Rewards

At the 2025 Continental Finals, teams will not only be playing for glory but also for life-changing prize money:

  • Winners: $300,000
  • Runners-up: $200,000
  • Third place: $150,000

The tournament brings together zone winners from across Africa, along with the 2023/24 champions and host nation Ghana, to compete for the ultimate crown in school football.

CAF Partners with CANAL+ to Elevate African Schools Football

With CANAL+ coming on board as an official partner, the tournament is set to reach new heights in terms of exposure and professionalism. CAF Director of Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna, expressed excitement about the upcoming event:

“We are thrilled to bring the CAF African Schools Football Championship to Ghana. This tournament continues to inspire young talents across Africa, and with partners like CANAL+, we are elevating it even further. Their support strengthens our mission to develop the next generation of football stars while fostering education, skills, and opportunities for young players. We look forward to an unforgettable tournament filled with passion, talent, and growth.”

Beyond Football: Developing Africa’s Future Leaders

More than just a football tournament, the championship includes various capacity-building programs designed to develop players, coaches, and young professionals. These initiatives include:

  • CAF D License Coaching Course
  • Safeguarding & Child Protection Workshops
  • Refereeing & Young Reporters Training
  • Safety & Security Workshops
  • Young Medical Officers Programme

Legon Sports Stadium – A World-Class Stage for Future Stars

The Legon Sports Stadium, a 10,000-seater venue built for the 2023 African Games, will provide a world-class setting for the tournament. Beyond the matches, the stadium will host training sessions and educational workshops, ensuring a holistic experience for all participants.
