Hon Onoriode Oborevwori, Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, joined Super Eagles legends and other well-meaning Nigerians in a novelty football match yesterday, celebrating the 4th Coronation Anniversary of His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, the Olu of Warri.
The game, which was held on palace grounds, saw legends like Kanu Nwankwo, Emmanuel Amuneke, Finidi George, Austin Eguavoen, Victor Ikpeba, amongst others, grace the occasion, rolling back the years in honour of the Royal Father who, since his coronation, has dedicated his life to the betterment of his people.
Earlier in the day, the Chairman presented a jersey to Ogiame at a reception organized at the palace for the participating dignitaries, with the importance of sports as a tool for national unity and identity emphasized by the Royal Father.
Under the Chairmanship of Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, sports in Delta have enjoyed and maintained an upwards trajectory, with team Delta clinching the top spot with a total of 244 medals – 109 gold, 75 silver, and 60 bronze, at the last National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.
Local favourites Warri Wolves have also gained promotion to the NPFL, marking a return of top-flight football to Delta.
