Super Eagles invitee Igoh Ogbu has crowned a brilliant chapter in his career by winning the Czech Republic 1. Liga with Slavia Prague for the very first time.

It’s been a whirlwind few months for the 25-year-old defender, who swapped Norwegian side Lillestrom for the Czech capital in 2023. Ogbu wasted no time bedding in, becoming a key figure at the heart of Slavia’s backline.

Last season ended in heartbreak, as Slavia missed out on the title by just two points to bitter rivals Sparta Prague. But this time around, they left no room for doubt — dominating the league with an iron fist, racking up 29 wins in 35 matches.

Ogbu’s season wasn’t without setbacks. The towering centre-back endured injury troubles, battling muscle and head knocks that ruled him out of 12 matches. He only returned to action last week after a three-week layoff with a muscle injury.

But on Saturday, when it mattered most, Ogbu stood tall.

Starting at the core of Slavia’s defence, he delivered a colossal performance in a 5-0 demolition of Sigma Olomouc. His stats told the story: seven clearances, one block, six interceptions, three tackles, one key pass, and nine duels won out of 11 — a rock at the back when his team needed him most.

The victory pushed Slavia to an unassailable 81 points, miles ahead of second-placed Viktoria Plzen (65 points) with just four games left. Mathematically, the title was theirs — the club’s 23rd top-flight crown.

Ogbu’s rise hasn’t gone unnoticed. His consistency and commanding displays earned him a first-ever Super Eagles call-up, with national team scouts keenly watching his progress.

For now, Igoh Ogbu can revel in the glory of his maiden league title in the Czech Republic — but with performances like these, even bigger stages may soon beckon.
