French Ligue 1 joined millions of football fans worldwide in celebrating Nigerian icon Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha on his birthday, with Paris Saint-Germain also paying tribute to their former midfield maestro on their official platforms. The skillful playmaker, known for his dazzling dribbles and creative flair, remains one of the most entertaining players to have graced the French top flight.

Okocha joined Paris Saint-Germain in 1998 from Turkish side Fenerbahçe, becoming one of the club’s standout stars alongside the likes of Nicolas Anelka and Ronaldinho. His mesmerizing footwork, audacious skills, and eye for spectacular goals made him a fan favourite at the Parc des Princes. During his time in France, he played a pivotal role in helping PSG lift the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2001 and maintained his reputation as one of the most technically gifted midfielders of his era.

Beyond his club heroics, Okocha remains a national treasure for Nigeria. He was instrumental in the Super Eagles’ triumph at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, played in three FIFA World Cups (1994, 1998, 2002), and won Olympic gold in 1996. His legacy continues to inspire young African footballers, and with both Ligue 1 and PSG honouring him on his special day, the world is once again reminded of the enduring magic of “Jay-Jay” Okocha.
