Super Eagles forward Moses Simon opened his goal account for Paris FC in their 5-2 defeat to Olympique Marseille on Saturday at the Stade Vélodrome. The Nigerian international, who joined Paris FC this summer, showed glimpses of his quality and resilience, marking the night with his first-ever goal for the club despite the heavy loss.
Marseille stormed into the lead through Mason Greenwood’s penalty in the 18th minute before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the advantage six minutes later. Paris FC, however, fought their way back into the game, with Ilan Kebbal pulling one back. Simon almost found the equaliser in the first half after dazzling his way past two defenders, but his shot was denied by the Marseille goalkeeper.
After the restart, Simon became the focal point of Paris FC’s attack. In the 54th minute he missed a promising chance, but just three minutes later he made amends. Latching onto a brilliant through ball from Kebbal, the 30-year-old Super Eagles star finished coolly with a low strike into the bottom corner, bringing the score to 2-2 and sparking celebrations among the Paris FC fans. It was a moment of individual brilliance that underlined his importance to the newly promoted side.
Simon’s night ended in the 64th minute when he was substituted, but by then, he had already left his mark. Unfortunately for Paris FC, the defensive frailties resurfaced in the final stages. Aubameyang struck again, before Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Robinio Vaz sealed a commanding 5-2 win for Marseille.
While the result was disappointing for Paris FC, Simon’s first goal in their colours stands out as the bright spot. The Nigerian winger will now look to build on this breakthrough performance and establish himself as a key figure in the club’s fight for survival in Ligue 1.
