Nathan Tella’s worldie of an assist was sadly not enough for Bayern Leverkusen, as they drew Werder Bremen away from home in their second Bundesliga game of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen were off to a flying start, taking the lead inside five minutes. Nathan Tella reacted quickest to a loose ball, skipped past his marker, and squared unselfishly for Schick, who made no mistake from close range.

The advantage was doubled in the 36th minute when Tillman struck to put Leverkusen firmly in control. But Werder Bremen hit back, earning a penalty that Schmid calmly dispatched to halve the deficit before halftime.

Bremen’s hopes took a blow in the 63rd minute when Schmidt was shown a second yellow card, leaving them with ten men. Just a minute later, Leverkusen capitalized, Schick grabbing his second to restore the two-goal cushion.

Yet Bremen refused to fold. They pulled one back in the 76th minute and, in dramatic fashion, snatched an equalizer deep into stoppage time as Karim Coulibaly struck in the 96th minute to break Leverkusen hearts.

The result means Bayer Leverkusen remain winless in two Bundesliga matches this season, following their opening-day defeat to Hoffenheim.

Victor boniface

Conspicuously absent from the squad was Victor Boniface. The Nigerian striker, who has endured a difficult week after a failed move to AC Milan, now faces a battle to win back his place in Erik ten Hag’s side. With no call-up to the Nigerian national team for the upcoming international window, Boniface will use the break to try to prove he still has a role to play in Leverkusen’s plans.
