Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, the D’Tigers, saw their journey at the ongoing FIBA AfroBasket 2025 come to an abrupt end after a 91–75 quarter-final loss to Senegal at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda.

D’Tigers, who had impressed in the group stage with three straight victories, started brightly and edged the opening quarter 24–23. However, Senegal quickly found their rhythm, overturning the deficit to lead 53–42 at halftime.

By the third quarter, the Lions of Teranga extended their dominance, building a commanding 20-point cushion. Despite Nigeria’s efforts to stage a comeback, Senegal maintained control throughout the final stretch, sealing the victory and booking their place in the semi-finals.

The defeat means the D’Tigers will now settle for the classification rounds, battling other quarter-final losers to determine their final ranking in the competition.

The 2025 AfroBasket, hosted in Angola, runs from August 12 to August 24 with 16 national teams competing for continental supremacy. While Senegal marches on in pursuit of the title, Nigeria’s campaign ends in disappointment, leaving fans hopeful for a stronger comeback in future tournaments.
