As the Scrabble event at the National Sports Festival (Gateway Games 2024) heats up after 12 intense rounds across the Open, Female, Masters, and Intermediate categories, Captain of Team Ogun, Cyril Umebiye, has expressed strong confidence that Ogun State will secure at least three gold medals before the competition concludes.
In a chat with sports journalist Victor Emmanuel Onuh, Umebiye emphasized the high level of competition at the festival, describing it as a gathering of the very best from across Nigeria. He stated: “Team Ogun have been honing their skills in camp playing over 100 tough serious games to prepare for this, but like they say on the day of battle you need the grace of God to edge other players. But in all our players are there gunning for the medals table.”
When asked about his expectations as team captain, he shared his realistic yet ambitious goal: “As the host state with our preparation, I’m believing our least will be 3 gold medals out of all the 12 available, I want to be modest about it, we can get more than that.”
With strong performances already underway, all eyes are on Team Ogun as they aim to dominate the Scrabble board and solidify their place at the top of the medals table.
