It was a night of high drama in Istanbul as Trabzonspor edged Fatih Karagümrük 4-3 in a Turkish Super Lig thriller on Saturday, with Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu once again stealing the spotlight.
The visitors struck first in the 19th minute through Felipe Augusto, but Karagümrük quickly hit back via Tunahan Çukur. Onuachu then took charge of the contest, restoring Trabzonspor’s lead in the 35th minute before confidently dispatching a penalty deep into first-half stoppage time to make it 3-1 at the break.
Trabzonspor looked to have killed off the game when Danylo Sikan added a fourth goal in the 88th minute. However, the drama was far from over. Karagümrük’s Dramane Fofana netted twice in stoppage time, scoring in the 91st and 92nd minutes to set up a tense finale. The visitors held on, though, to secure a crucial 4-3 away win.
Onuachu’s double was once again decisive, taking his tally to five goals this season and cementing his role as Trabzonspor’s most reliable attacking weapon.
With his current form and eye for goal, the towering striker could well be in line for a recall to the Super Eagles squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers, a timely boost for Nigeria’s hopes on the road to 2026.
