Southampton today announced the sale of Paul Onuachu to Trabzonspor, ending a two and half year spell with the English club that saw the Super Eagles marksman score just four goals in forty appearances.
Onuachu joined The Saints in January of 2023, but a run of below-par performances, coaching changes, and playing style clashes saw the lanky striker fall down the pecking order, restricted to bech places and scanty minutes on the pitch.
After half a season with scarce playing chances, Onuachu went on a season-long loan to Trabzonspor, where he scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 25 games, with fans questioning his low numbers and limited playing time while with The Saints.
Onuachu returned to Saint Mary’s for the 2024/2025 season but again struggled to adapt to the style of play and battled for playing time, eventually featuring more towards the end of the season and finishing as top scorer for the club with four goals in 11 starts.
Onuachu will hope to rediscover his scoring boots in Turkey, a league he impressed in last season.
