Paul Onuachu opened his goal account in the Turkish Super Lig on Monday night, scoring the decisive strike that secured Trabzonspor a 1-0 win over newly promoted Kocaelispor and their first victory of the new season.

The Super Eagles forward found the net in the 49th minute with a perfectly timed header, which proved to be the home side’s only shot on target throughout the game.

Following a difficult 2024–25 campaign, Trabzonspor were eager to begin the new season on a strong note. They dominated the early stages and, although the first half ended goalless, their persistence was rewarded just four minutes after the restart.

Speaking after the match, Onuachu expressed his delight at being back at the club:

“Playing here again and being here is a wonderful feeling for me. It was a great victory. We thank our fans. We were a bit tired in the second half, but it was a fantastic victory. We are very happy.”

Now working under new coach Fatih Tekke, the 31-year-old also shared his thoughts on the tactical shift:

“Different coaches, different systems. The system we had with our previous coach was good, and the system we want to implement now is also very good. We need to reflect our coach’s desires on the field.”

Trabzonspor will be hoping Onuachu’s goal is the first of many as they look to challenge for the top spots in the Turkish Super Lig this season.
