Match Report:The Sky Blue Stars’ quest for a maiden league title roared to life under stormy skies, as Adedayo Olamilekan and supersub Samson Olasupo delivered knockout blows to sink Heartland FC 2-0—a victory dripping with ambition and grit.

From the first whistle, Remo Stars crackled with intent. Right-back Sodiq Ismail, a tireless marauder, nearly broke the deadlock inside 10 minutes, his stinging drive clawed off the line in a desperate scramble. Moments later, Frank Mawuena’s thunderous header whistled past the post, leaving Heartland’s woodwork sighing in relief.

The breakthrough arrived in the 31st minute, a goal carved from chaos and cold precision. A route-one missile from the back found Sikiru Alimi, whose aerial duel spilled the ball to Mawuena. The Ghanaian playmaker turned assassin, slicing Heartland’s defense with a telepathic through-ball that sent Olamilekan streaking clear. The winger’s composure was lethal, lashing a clinical finish into the bottom corner to ignite the home crowd.

Remo’s hunger refused to wane. Segun Ogunbiride, smelling blood, unleashed a 25-yard piledriver that kissed the clouds before dipping viciously—a hair’s breadth over the bar. Heartland, rattled and ragged, survived a first-half onslaught, their only respite a wasted corner on the cusp of halftime.

THE OPENER!

After the break, rain lashed the turf as Heartland flickered briefly to life—a half-volley from nowhere drawing a full-stretch save from Remo’s keeper, his gloves still smoldering. But the hosts swiftly reclaimed control. Mawuena, a constant thorn, saw a goal-bound effort blocked by a last-ditch lunge after Alimi’s delicate pass sliced open the defense. Substitute Olasupo then agonizingly mistimed his leap, failing to connect with Sodiq’s devilish cross as the second goal teased and taunted.

But drama erupted in the 81st minute. Midfield maestro Alex Oyowa turned magician, dancing past three challengers with balletic footwork before releasing Tochukwu Michael on the overlap. The wingback’s cross deflected fortuitously into the path of Olasupo, who atoned for his earlier miss with a poacher’s stab into the net—cue bedlam in the stands.

Full Time: A masterclass in persistence. Remo Stars’ faithful erupted, their chants cutting through the rain as the title dream burns brighter. With Olamilekan’s flair and Olasupo’s killer instinct, the Sky Blue Stars march onward, destiny in their hands and history in their sights.

We enjoyed that one, trust you did too ✨#REMHEA | #NPFL25 pic.twitter.com/khNDk5joXD
