Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan has named Nurudeen Aweroro as their new Head Coach ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The announcement comes following a major shake-up in the club’s technical crew, which saw the departure of former head coach Gbenga Ogunbote after two seasons at the helm. Aweroro, a CAF-licensed tactician, was officially unveiled via the club’s social media handle.
“Nurudeen Aweroro is the new Head Coach of Shooting Stars SC. A CAF Licensed tactician with experience from Remo Stars, MFM FC, and Ikorodu City, Coach Aweroro is set to lead the Oluyole Warriors to glory,” the statement read.
Aweroro’s appointment follows an impressive debut NPFL campaign with Ikorodu City, where he led the club to a remarkable 4th-place finish, a historic achievement in their first season in Nigeria’s top flight. He also guided the team to the semi-finals of the President Federation Cup, narrowly losing to eventual finalists Abakaliki FC.
The Ibadan-based club is banking on Aweroro’s youthful energy and modern coaching approach to rejuvenate the team’s fortunes after an inconsistent 2024/25 campaign. Shooting Stars finished 8th on the NPFL table, with 15 wins, 9 draws, and 14 losses in 38 matches.
Speculation had surrounded possible replacements for Ogunbote, with former 3SC coach Edith Agoye and ex-Akwa United boss Deji Ayeni previously linked with the vacant role.
Aweroro now takes charge with the aim of returning the Oluyole Warriors to their former glory and mounting a strong title challenge in the new season.
