Lagos-born Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Moro Ojomo is the latest Nigerian athlete to become a Super Bowl champion. Ojomo was part of the Eagles’ dominant team that dismantled the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 at Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Ojomo finished the game with two tackles including a tackle for loss on an Isaiah Pacheco run during the second quarter of Philadelphia’s historic defensive effort. It is Ojomo’s first career Super Bowl ring.

Ojomo helped the Eagles limit Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to under 300 total yards, and a paltry 12 first downs. The Chiefs notched just 49 rushing yards.

The Eagles went 14-3 in the regular season but had to play in the Wild Card round because of the 15-2 Detroit Lions. Philadelphia topped Green Bay, the Los Angeles Rams, and Washington on the way to the Super Bowl. During that stretch, Ojomo logged five tackles and one sack.

Originally a seventh-round pick of the Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft, Ojomo has maintained a role on an elite Eagles defensive line that features Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, and Josh Sweat.

Ojomo played in all 17 regular-season games this year and all four of Philadelphia’s playoff games. In the 28-22 win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional, Ojomo registered his first career NFL sack.

Ojomo played in eight games during his rookie season with the Eagles, posting three total tackles. However, he took a second-year leap in 2024, finishing the regular season with 20 total tackles.
