With club football back in full throttle across the globe, Modzero Sports brings you an in-depth round-up of how Nigerian Super Eagles stars fared for their respective clubs this past weekend—from Europe to Asia and beyond.
Goalkeepers
Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United, South Africa)
The in-form shot-stopper returned between the sticks after missing the previous fixture and turned in a solid performance, keeping a clean sheet in Chippa United’s goalless stalemate against Golden Arrows. His commanding presence earned his side a valuable point on the road.
Maduka Okoye (Udinese, Italy)
Okoye was impressive for large spells in Udinese’s visit to Genoa but was finally beaten by an impressive strike from Alessandro Zanoli in the 77th minute. Despite the 1-0 loss, the Super Eagles goalkeeper continues to find rhythm following his return from a long injury layoff—his fourth straight league appearance.
Defenders
William Troost-Ekong (Al Kholood, Saudi Arabia)
The Super Eagles captain put in a full shift but couldn’t prevent his side from falling to a 2-0 defeat against Al-Tawoon.
Bright Osayi-Samuel (Fenerbahçe, Turkey)
A rock in defence and a menace going forward, Osayi-Samuel delivered a commanding performance as Fenerbahçe triumphed over Trabzonspor 4-1 in a fiery Turkish Super Lig encounter.
Calvin Bassey (Fulham, England)
The no-nonsense centre-back was immense at the back as Fulham edged Liverpool 3-2 in a thrilling Premier League showdown. Bassey’s leadership and composure proved key in keeping the Reds at bay.
Jordan Torunarigha (Gent, Belgium)
The defender lasted 69 minutes but could do little to prevent Gent’s 3-0 home thumping at the hands of Royale Union SG.
Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest, England)
Aina was ruled out of Forest’s match against Aston Villa due to a calf injury picked up midweek against Manchester United.
Igoh Ogbu (Sparta Prague, Czech Republic)
The tough-tackling defender missed Sparta’s home win over Hradec Kralove through a thigh injury.
Midfielders
Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge, Belgium)
A midfield engine yet again, Onyedika anchored the midfield with authority in Club Brugge’s 3-2 win over Charleroi—keeping their title hopes alive in the Championship round.
Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi (New England Revolution, MLS)
The defensive midfielder played the full 90 but couldn’t help New England avoid a 1-0 defeat away at FC Cincinnati.
Alex Iwobi (Fulham, England)
The Super Eagles playmaker pounced on Liverpool’s defensive lapse to give Fulham the lead in the 32nd minute in their 3-2 shock win over the Premier League leaders.
Joe Aribo (Southampton, England)
Aribo featured for 64 minutes as Southampton fell 3-1 to Tottenham. The result all but confirmed the Saints’ relegation fate.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (Lazio, Italy)
Dele-Bashiru pulled the strings in midfield and grabbed a brilliant assist in Lazio’s 1-0 win over Atalanta, setting up Gustav Isaksen for the winner in the 54th minute.

Forwards
Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan, Italy)
Introduced in the 79th minute, Chukwueze helped Milan rally from two goals down to salvage a draw against Fiorentina. While he didn’t score, his direct running stretched the Viola defence.
Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray, Turkey)
Galatasaray had no fixture this weekend, with Osimhen watching from the sidelines.
Ademola Lookman (Atalanta, Italy)
Lookman tried to spark Atalanta’s attack but was stifled by Lazio’s tight marking, featuring for 74 minutes in a 1-0 home loss.
Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany)
Boniface played 68 minutes in Bayer Leverkusen’s slim 1-0 win over Heidenheim, keeping Xabi Alonso’s men hot on Bayern’s heels in the Bundesliga title race.
Moses Simon (Nantes, France)
The veteran winger rolled back the years with a sublime assist in the 11th minute, setting the tone for Nantes’ shock away win over OGC Nice.
Sadiq Umar (Valencia, Spain)
Sadiq featured for 59 minutes, received a yellow card, and helped Valencia secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Mestalla.
Tolu Arokodare (Genk, Belgium)
The powerful forward played 76 minutes and was instrumental in Genk’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht, stretching their lead to four points atop the Belgian Pro League Championship Round standings.
Kelechi Iheanacho (Middlesbrough, England)
Fresh off ending his goal drought, Iheanacho turned provider, notching two first-half assists as Middlesbrough cruised past Blackburn. The win propelled Boro into the Championship playoff spots.
