Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong delivered a dominant defensive performance as Al Kholood secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Al Ettifaq on Saudi Pro League matchday 31.
The much-needed win ended Al Kholood’s six-game winless streak and came courtesy of a decisive 68th-minute goal from in-form striker Myziane Maolida — his 14th of the league season. The result not only revived the club’s survival hopes but also restricted Al Ettifaq to, at best, a 7th-place finish.
Troost-Ekong anchored the backline with authority, leading from the rear and denying the visitors any opportunity to level late in the game. His composure and leadership proved pivotal in preserving the narrow lead as the team battled to stay above the relegation zone.
Al Kholood moved away from the relegation zone – although they are not mathematically safe yet, all while limiting Al Ettifaq's season to a maximum of a 7th place finish following their 1-0 against Saad Al Shehri's side 👊#KHOETF highlights presented by @VisitSaudi 🇸🇦 pic.twitter.com/UpIsUXIFfe

With this result, Al Kholood moved four points clear of the drop, though they are not yet mathematically safe. The Nigerian defender has featured in 29 league matches this season, contributing two goals and an assist — a testament to his influence at both ends of the pitch.
As the season nears its conclusion, Troost-Ekong will be key in steering Al Kholood through their final three fixtures, hoping to maintain top-flight status and end the campaign on a strong note.
