The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have landed in Cairo ahead of the 17th edition of the Africa U20 Cup of Nations, with a high-profile friendly clash against host nation Egypt lined up as part of their final preparations.
A 33-man delegation comprising 24 players and nine officials, led by Head Coach Aliyu Zubairu, touched down at Cairo International Airport on Sunday evening aboard an Egypt Air flight. The squad will be based at the Jewel Sports City and Aqua Resort throughout their stay.
The seven-time champions are expected to hit the ground running with their first training session scheduled for Monday evening, as focus shifts to Tuesday’s friendly against the Young Pharaohs. The match will be played at the iconic Cairo International Stadium and kicks off at 5pm local time (4pm Nigerian time).
This tune-up game serves as a critical test for the Flying Eagles as they fine-tune strategies ahead of their Group B opener against Tunisia on Thursday, 1st May, at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.
The 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, which runs from 27th April to 18th May, also doubles as the CAF qualifiers for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile later this year. The four semi-finalists in Egypt will book tickets to represent Africa on the global stage come September.
