Nigeria Premier Football League table-toppers Remo Stars and other Nigerian clubs gearing up for next season’s CAF Inter-club competitions are set for a financial boost, following a recent announcement by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF, under the leadership of President Patrice Motsepe, had earlier introduced a $50,000 support package for clubs participating in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup this season. Now, more financial incentives are on the horizon.
During the official signing ceremony of a new sponsorship deal with logistics giant AGL, Motsepe reiterated CAF’s growing commitment to the development of African football and the welfare of its players.
“There is money coming into African football, and we need to ensure our players are well compensated,” he said. “We gave $50,000 to clubs participating in the Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary rounds for the first time—and we have plans to do even more.”
The announcement is timely for Nigerian clubs like Remo Stars, who are eyeing strong campaigns on the continental stage. With increased financial backing, there’s renewed hope that improved competitiveness and infrastructure investment will follow, enhancing Nigeria’s impact in CAF competitions.
