In a dominant display, Ogun State’s wheelchair basketball team secured the gold medal in the mixed-double event, defeating Oyo State 8-1 in the final at the ongoing National Sports Festival 2024.
Building on their earlier success—where the female team won gold against Lagos with a 6-3 victory—Team Ogun thrilled fans in Ikenne with another commanding performance, brushing aside their opponents in emphatic style.
Speaking to sports journalist Victor Emmanuel Onuh, head coach Keshiro Olaitan expressed his pride in the team’s performance: “their promise to the camp was that the 3 gold at the event belongs to Ogun State, now they have 2 gold now and tomorrow they will claim the 3rd one.” He also extended gratitude to the Governor and supporters: “He appreciated all the support of the Governor and the fans who have stood behind them during the beginning of the competition.”
Team Ogun has been a class apart in the wheelchair basketball event, outperforming every opponent in both the female and mixed-double categories. With two gold medals now secured, they are aiming for a clean sweep as they prepare for the men’s final, where they hope to complete a historic treble.
