
In a fiercely contested final, Ogun State’s wheelchair basketball team triumphed over Oyo State with a 13-10 win to capture the gold medal in the men’s event, completing a stunning treble sweep at the National Sports Festival 2024.
Having already secured gold in the female and mixed-double events, Team Ogun delivered a thrilling comeback performance in Ikenne, rallying from a 3-1 deficit to clinch victory and spark jubilant celebrations at the final whistle. Lagos State defeated Imo State to earn the bronze medal.
Speaking to sports journalist Victor Emmanuel Onuh, head coach Keshiro Olaitan expressed his overwhelming joy: “I feel so happy, great, this is the Lord’s doing. I didn’t expect this but I believe in what we trained for. I thank the supporters, I thank our President for making the dream real and I thank our Governor – Dapo Abiodun. Our promise to claim all 3 gold medals is set now.”
