Greek Super League giants AEK Athens have begun discussions with Rangers over the potential transfer of Super Eagles international Cyriel Dessers, as they prepare for a renewed title challenge in the upcoming season.

The 13-time Greek champions are keen to bolster their attacking options and have identified Dessers as their top transfer target. According to a report from the Scottish Daily Record, AEK are prepared to make a significant financial commitment to secure the 30-year-old forward’s services.

Dessers, who joined Rangers from Cremonese in a £4.5 million deal last summer, has made a strong impression in Scotland. He has scored 51 goals over two seasons, including nearly 30 goals in the just-concluded campaign.

With PAOK snatching the league title in 2024 and Olympiacos reclaiming the crown with a record-extending 48th championship in 2025, AEK are under pressure to reinforce their squad with a marquee signing — and Dessers fits the profile.

Owned by Greek shipping magnate Marios Iliopoulos, AEK are looking to “push the boat out” in their efforts to land the prolific Nigerian striker, who is seen as the ideal player to lead their front line.

The move, if finalized, would mark a significant step in Dessers’ career and add further Nigerian representation in Greek top-flight football.
