Ademola Lookman Submits Transfer Request to Leave Atalanta Amid Inter Milan Interest

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has publicly confirmed that he has submitted a formal transfer request to leave Serie A club Atalanta, escalating tensions over his desired move to Inter Milan. The 27-year-old Nigerian international made the announcement through an emotional statement released on Sunday, expressing disappointment over how the transfer situation has unfolded.

Lookman, who has already reached personal terms with Inter Milan, has watched as multiple bids from the Nerazzurri, including a significant €45 million offer were turned down by Atalanta. The winger now claims that the club is reneging on an agreement that would have allowed him to leave if a fair offer arrived.

In his statement, Lookman reflected on his three-year journey with the Bergamo-based club, thanking the fans and recounting the pride he felt in wearing the Atalanta jersey.

“Over the past three years at Atalanta, I’ve given absolutely everything. Not just as a footballer, but as a person. I’ve always worn the shirt with pride and tried to represent this club and the city of Bergamo with heart, passion and dedication,” he wrote.

He described the club as a second home and highlighted his proudest moment, helping Atalanta lift the UEFA Europa League trophy in Dublin. Despite that success, he feels the time is right for a new challenge.

“That’s what makes writing this so hard. I have loved every moment but feel that now, after three wonderful years in Bergamo, it is the right time to move on and experience a new adventure.”

Lookman revealed that club officials had previously assured him that he could leave if a suitable offer was received. However, he claims those assurances are no longer being honored.

“Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand.”

Citing “broken promises” and “poor treatment,” Lookman said he was left with no choice but to make his dissatisfaction public and formally request a transfer.

“Sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and feel that enough is enough. I can confirm I have now handed in a formal transfer request.”

Lookman also addressed Atalanta supporters directly, apologizing for the situation and expressing gratitude for their continued support.

“To the fans – the heartbeat of this club – I want to say this: I’m truly sorry it’s come to this. I hope you can understand this incredibly difficult situation.”

The winger ended his statement by calling for an amicable resolution that would satisfy all parties involved.

Lookman was one of Atalanta’s standout performers last season, helping the club to historic European success and drawing interest from top clubs across Europe. Inter Milan remain keen to finalize a deal, but Atalanta are holding firm on their €50 million valuation and are unwilling to compromise unless their financial expectations are met.
