The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has unveiled a 17-man provisional roster for D’Tigers ahead of the 2025 FIBA Men’s Afrobasket, set to take place in Angola from August 12 to 24.
With eyes on a second continental crown, Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team will compete in the tournament across two Angolan cities—Luanda and Moçâmedes. D’Tigers, who last won the title in 2015, are looking to reclaim their place among Africa’s basketball elite.
The squad, announced on Thursday, features just one NBA player Josh Okogie, who recently signed with the Houston Rockets. Other notable names include Ike Nwamu, Caleb Agada, Wesley Iwundu, Ugochukwu Simon, Mike Nuga, Stanley Okoye, Devine Eke, Folabomi Fayemi, and Emmanuel Omogbo.
Completing the lineup are Talib Zanna, Christian Mekowulu, Martins Igbanu, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, Peter Olisemeka, and Tonye Jekiri.
Notable absentees from the preliminary squad include NBA regulars Precious Achiuwa, Gabe Vincent, Jordan Nwora, Chima Moneke, and Chimezie Metu, who is recovering from injury.
The team’s training camp is set to commence next week, with additional call-ups still a possibility before the final roster is confirmed.
Nigeria has been placed in Group B, where they will face two-time defending champions Tunisia, as well as Madagascar and Cameroon. D’Tigers will tip off their campaign against Madagascar, then battle Tunisia in a crucial clash, before wrapping up the group stage against Cameroon.
